We found this little brown bat in a chimney yesterday (it was not harmed in anyway).  Bats are cool creatures if you ask us.  This species of bat is very common for our area. They eat flying insects such as mosquitoes, moths, flies, beetles etc and make several feeding flights a night. They leave their summer roosts in October/November and hibernate in caves, mines and tunnels until spring when they return again in April/May.  They return to the same hibernation site year after year, usually to the exact same spot. Bats like squirrels, birds and other small creatures like to nest in chimneys.  Chimney caps are a great way to keep weather, debris and other animals out of your chimney!
